Why Learn Javascript in 2022 - 5 Reasons
From time to time I’m getting questions from the students if it a good idea to start learning programming with Javascript because most of them think that Javascript is too saturated now, there are too many Javascript developers and it doesn't make sense to start learning programming with Javascript. And maybe I can recommend another language which will be more popular in the future. But I still think that Javascript is the best language in the world if you want to earn money. This is why in this post I want to share my five reasons why you must learn Javascript as your first language.
Good payed
Reason number one is that Javascript is really good payed. It is not like you are getting the best salary that is possible in programming but you are getting a little bit above the average. And yet sure a lot of people start with Javascript this is why there are lots of beginners in Javascript world. This is why it may be a little bit difficult at the beginning to find the job and to start working. But if we are talking about middle or senior developers in Javascript it totally make sense and it is paid quite a lot.
Unique language
The next point is that the Javascript is super unique language. It is not like the best language in the world from the coding perspective but you are getting the most positions possible in the world as a language. Why is that? Because actually Javascript is the only language which exists on the frontend. Which actually means lots of companies nowadays are building web sites or some web solutions and they are using some language on the backend. It can be Ruby, PHP, Java whatever you want. But on client they always use Javascript which actually means if you know for example PHP then you can apply only to the companies where they have PHP on the backend. And there are not that many companies as with Javascript on the client. Because actually all companies who are doing web are using Javascript on the client. There is no other possibility this is why the amount of positions in the world is enormous. And this is what makes Javascript such a great language.
Difficulty
Reason number three is that it is much easier to start with Javascript than with any other language. This is why it is the most popular language in the world and sure it is not the safest, not the fastest but it is the easiest to start. This is why lots of stuff nowadays in backend, frontend, mobile anywhere is built with Javascript. So first of all the language itself is much easier than for example Java or maybe Haskell which are really difficult to start especially if you don’t know any other language. And secondly it is super easy to start with Javascript because you don’t need to setup your environment at all. You already have a browser and you don’t need anything else. You simply can start directly to write Javascript code. And it is not like this in other languages for example for Java or maybe Haskell you need to install quite a lot packages, you need to have your own environment and it may be really difficult to setup all of this if you are a beginner.
Sources of knowledge
My next reason is the amount of information. There are enormous amount of courses, videos in Youtube, tutorials and books about Javascript which means it is super easy to find enough knowledge to master Javascript. And it is not like this in all other languages. Sure with some popular languager it is fine. But you have some languages like for example Haskell where you don’t have that many sources of knowledge and you just need to dig in official documentation or in source code of the language itself.
Can you do it in 10 years?
My next reason is that it is future bullet proof. Javascript already exists a lots of years and there are lots of applications in production and it won’t go anywhere. Because actually people won’t just jump to some other language which is similar to Javascript. All these businesses and projects must be supported long time and Javascript will stay there quite a lot of time which actually means you can be sure that in 10 years Javascript will still be there and it will still be popular and you can find your job to earn money with it.
Versatility
And my last reason which is super important is how versatile Javascript is. It is not only about frontend and creating client site applications. We can also use Javascript on the backend with NodeJS. This is totally fine. But we can also build mobile applications with Javascript and it is sometimes even better for the business because they are covering directly all possible operational systems of mobile devices. Also a lot of desktop applications now are also written with Javascript because they are cross platform and they are much easier to support. Sure there are problems like they are not that good for resources. But who cares. And the same I can say about Data Bases for example MongoDB, blockchain or automation. In all these segments of programming, you are using Javascript. Which actually means if you don’t want to be a frontend developer anymore you can easily switch to something else where you were still use Javascript.
Conclusion
So I really think that Javascript is the best language in the world. And not like it is the best language to write a code but it is the best language from popularity balance and earning money for your real life.
